Sorry for the late post! Just wondering… What time do you guys usually check the blog so I can make sure everything is up in time?
Back to business. Granted, Corey could pretty much make ANYthing look good, the outfit itself is pretty darn cool. Rolling up the jeans was a little extra touch that added a lot to the look. Even if the hipster vibe is not your thing, you have to appreciate the fact that this trendy Mens ensemble is only 55 bucks.

This is one of those occasions where I find myself saying….”I can’t believe it’s Walmart!” When you trick yourself, you know there’s some serious work being done.
If this isn’t proof that your men should be reading this blog then I don’t know what is!
Happy Sunday everyone. xx

My friend Corey Gibson, our model of the day, is an amazingly talented singer and songwriter. You like Rihanna? Well, he wrote the song “Cheers” (which is now #8 on the music charts!). He himself sings and has one of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard in person. How do I know this? He sang during the whole photo shoot! Follow him on twitter!
If we could all afford custom designer suits and tailoring, the world would be a much more elegant place. But considering most of us aren’t willing to (let our men) spend $2,000-$5,000 on a single suit, I wanted to dedicate a post to showing you how to get that dapper look and spend only $100.
I didn’t know Corey’s exact sizing so I brought a couple options to fit him in. One was either a little too big on the shoulders or a little too short on the arms. Most men probably know this or SHOULD know this, but the shoulders on a suit jacket must fit perfectly. If they are too big or too small for the shoulders by any means, TOSS THEM! I ended up choosing the shorter arm jacket that fit well on the shoulders because at least I could take the style of the suit in a different direction….more trendy rather than traditional. We’ve seen this a lot with male celebs at the MTV Movie Awards or even the Grammy’s. They put a more casual, young twist on the conventional suit (see: converse sneakers) which I love even more somtimes (depending on the occasion).
Here’s another example of how being constricted by a budget can sometimes force you to see, experiment, and take risks in a way you wouldn’t have thought of before.
Special thanks to Kohshin Finley for the amazing photography. Check out his portfolio here!

Check out these Walmart employees-Dan, Victor, and Mitch–all modeling outfits sold from their own store. I think they shocked themselves with how good they looked in Walmart clothes!
We can all agree that Dan’s collared plaid shirt with the khaki pants is classic and timeless. The best part though are the sneakers (Vans knockoffs) that make the outfit less conservative and more playful.

I love Victor’s distressed jeans with the two different color tees layered one on top of the other. It adds a little more flavor to the normal everyday t-shirt and jeans.

Mitch’s jeans are raw denim and were actually meant to be worn as workman’s jeans. Designers like APC (a French label) have made this type of denim trendy and charge upwards of $200 for a single pair! Raw denim feels stiff at first but they give with time. The more you wear them, the better they look!

If my brother looks like Rob Kardashian, does that mean I look like Kim? I wish!
Rob Kardashian for those of you who don’t follow “Keeping up with The Kardashians” on E!, is brother to Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim Kardashian, the three sisters who have built an empire around their opinionated, sometimes catty, yet compelling personalities. Coincidentally, Rob is one of the models for the OP clothing line at Walmart. My brother Josh is a total Rob character in our mostly female household. He’s the voice of reason, funnier than anyone I know, and just such a GOOD GUY. Ladies—he’s the type of guy you wanna marry! I feel like I’m writing an ad on Match.com so I think I’m going to stop, but point being….he’s a catch!
On to the outfit…I’m a big fan of plaid button downs on guys. The key is:
1. finding the color combo that matches best with his skin tone
2. unbuttoning the first button
3. rolling up the sleeves like you see here in the photo
The shoes are a cross between Toms and Vans, but for $12. The whole look is effortless and cool. It has some passaz without being too over the top. Pass the love to your fellas and help ‘em out!

Pennies, meet my brother Josh, the handsome model in today’s outfit. Josh was probably the easiest model we have ever shot for this blog. My mom told him where to stand and after the second click, we had our shot. It’s so easy for men isn’t it? No sucking in, no bad angles, no needing to see the photo right after it’s taken. Such a breath of fresh air for once!
The big secret in this outfit is that the jacket is a Women’s jacket! I’ve been trying to style it on one of my models for a while now but it always looked too masculine. I’m a big fan of cardigans on Men. If you go to JCREW, that’s about all you’ll see in the Men’s section. The stripes give the outfit a much needed accent and convinces people that the wearer has some flair beyond just t-shirts and jeans.
Speaking of jeans, these Wranglers were meant to be worn by the rustic cowboy type (I did buy them in a Walmart in Utah after all), but as soon as we cuff the bottom, the jeans have more of an urban trendy look. The material is raw denim which has been embraced in Men’s apparel the past couple of years. A French label, APC, has made a killing selling raw denim jeans for $175 which feel and look exactly like these Wranglers for $22. That’s what we call smart shopping boys!

I love this photo. It captures the moment so well.
Can you believe this whole outfit is from Walmart? It looks like it’s out of a John Varvatos ad. I think the key ingredient here is the scarf. I’ve seen these acid stained scarves at fancy department stores in LA so it puts a smile on my face to see it at Walmart for $5. It’s moments like those when it feels good to be a thrifty shopper.
People always say to me, “So what, you’re gonna tell me that’s Walmart?” Suddenly my face lights up and I say “Well yes, yes I am.” It’s the small stuff, I guess…

I die for this outfit on a man! So classic and chic. Also helps that my friend Steven happens to be extremely good-looking. Show this to your husband, boyfriend, friend, brother, dad, uncle, nephew, grandson, or cousin and see what he thinks….
There are a couple reasons why this outfit looks expensive (even though it’s not):
1. Rolling up the bottom of the khakis. If the khakis had been left long they would risk looking old-fashioned and too formal for this look.
2. Ironing the oxford shirt. Don’t underestimate the power of a crisp shirt. A good ironing makes things look a lot more expensive.
3. Unbuttoning the shirt. This adds some extra slickness to an already cool ensemble
4. Accessorizing with a scarf. I know some guys are afraid of the verb “accessorize” but if you want to look chic, it’s essential, even for guys! The scarf adds that sophistication without making a huge statement. It’s very subtle and yet it ties the whole outfit together.

Some readers will be shocked to hear that the #1 email I get is from men asking me to start styling Menswear outfits!! Who knew? If there is one person who wouldn’t be ashamed to step into Wal-Mart and get an outfit that cost less than his dinner, it’s a guy–let’s be real. Tell your husbands, friends, lovers, brothers, sons and dads! Let’s get make our men chic too!!
Today’s model, Jonathan, is also the stylist behind this HOT outfit. Jon is one of my best friends and happens to be the most stylish fellow I know. Not surprising that he’s the Manhattan Menswear columnist for Examiner.com. Check out the smart and informative fashion column he writes. Not only that, he’s also styled celebs for magazines like GQ and Italian Vogue. I think I’ve proved my case enough….he’s a style maven without a doubt.
How do you feel about dedicating a post once in a while to men around here?
